Purchase Property in Alabama

It’s unfortunate that many of the southern states of the U.S. have a certain reputation for being “down home,” incredibly laid back, and even somewhat uneducated.  When people hear the word Alabama, unfortunately they sometimes think of this tired old stereotype.  Alabama is often thought of as a state full of people who spend their free time on the porch sipping lemonade and fanning themselves, and unfortunately, not much of anything else.

Like so many other stereotypes, this just isn’t the case.  Yes, Alabama is somewhat hot and humid in the summer months, and lemonade is a favorite drink of many, but that’s about where the similarities end!  Alabama is now one of the favorite states of business, industry, manufacturing, banking, and many other strong economic indicators, and is home to some of the nation’s leading educational institutions.

The climate of Alabama.

Alabama is one of the hottest and most humid states in the summer, with temperatures usually hovering around 90°.  The state also is not immune to tropical storms and hurricanes, and even in areas away from the gulf, these storms still can dump a tremendous amount of rain on them throughout the season.

The rest of the year is rather temperate in the state; the average temperature in January is around 40° with rare snowfall.

Because of this moderate winter season, residents and visitors of Alabama enjoy outdoor activities for most of the year.  It’s not unusual for homes to be built near lakes or close to the gulf coast to take full advantage of water sports.  Skiing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and anything else one could imagine on the water is common in the state.

The Talladega Speedway.

Racing is another very popular diversion in the state, as one can find the Talladega Speedway here.  Notice what their website says about the location:

“Talladega Superspeedway is the biggest, fastest, most competitive motor sports facility in the world.  Records for both speed and competition have been established at Talladega.

Talladega Superspeedway can accommodate more than 143,000-seated guests and thousands more in the 212-acre infield.  The track offers van tours to visitors daily during working hours except on weeks around events.  Adjacent to the track is the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum, which is also open daily.

Talladega Superspeedway presents five separate racing shows each year as host to the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, the NASCAR Busch Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA).

The facility is used for various automotive testing purposes as well as by driving schools.  Driving schools that regularly visit Talladega Superspeedway include Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure, Richard Petty Driving Experience and Racing Experience, Inc.  The facility is occasionally used by film production companies for television commercial and motion picture shoots.”

Anyone interested in racing or just fast cars would love to be around the Speedway to tour the museum and watch the shows.

The economy of the state.

For years, the state of Alabama did struggle in the area of economics as there was not much industry to support its population outside of farming and natural resources.  However, because of its temperate climate and low real estate prices, industries soon became interested in starting or relocating factories to the state.

Alabama is also home to the largest industrial growth corridor in the nation, including the surrounding states of Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, and Georgia.  Most of this growth is due to Alabama’s rapidly expanding automotive manufacturing industry which in Alabama alone since its birth in 1993 (and has spread to other states), has generated over 67,800 new jobs.  Alabama currently ranks 2nd in the nation behind Detroit in automobile output, but with recent expansions at sites in Alabama, the state by the first of 2009 will surpass Detroit, and become the largest builder of automobiles in North America.

The secondary industry of automotive suppliers has also followed suit, setting up facilities for manufacturing and shipment in the state, also creating jobs and revenue.  As an example, in May 2007, a site north of Mobile was selected by German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp for a $3.7 billion steel production plant, with the promise of 2,700 permanent jobs therein.  Of course, many other companies have done the same and will no doubt continue to do the same in upcoming years.

Luxury homes for sale.

Alabama’s residential real estate market is still incredibly affordable, especially as compared to other markets around the nation.  Most average families can afford a relatively nice home in a beautiful suburb.

Which means that someone with a bit more money at their disposal can afford a luxurious home that will probably be unlike anything they could find elsewhere.  Many homes are built in private communities overlooking lakes or golf courses, with every luxury one might imagine – stone fireplaces, swimming pools, manicured and professional landscaped lawns, guest houses, and everything else.  Most also come with plenty of storage area for your boat, jet skis, or any other toys you may have!

In the heart of the big cities such as Birmingham or Mobile, there are many luxury condo complexes from which to choose.  Many offer 3 or 4 bedrooms, with huge windows that overlook the entire city.  And again, fireplaces, hardwood floors, the latest in kitchen appliances and surface materials are all standard.  And for those long hot summers, luxurious pools and outdoor hot tubs are also included with most!

Mansion-like homes in Alabama typically start in the $2 million range, although some can be priced well into the $20 or $30 millions, and they’re worth every penny.  No “down home charm” here, as these residences are equipped with every modern appliance and convenience one could want, and offer the privacy and luxury you would demand.

So if you’re looking for a home that’s spacious, beautiful, modern, and that allows you to indulge yourself in all the summer sports you could ever imagine, it’s time to put away the tired old stereotypes and take a look at the beautiful state of Alabama.
